In this article we will dive into some marketing examples and terms and explain why most of them…
…are completely useless for smaller businesses and how effective marketing is the best option for smaller businesses.
Marketing is evolving.
Now that statement is both true and false at the same time.
Yes, it’s evolving and it’s never been easier to get your product in front of your perfect customer and get your sales numbers through the roof.
No, it’s still the same because the basics of it haven't changed since decades.
Before the world domination of the internet and social media, marketing involved getting ads in newspapers and magazines, showing ads on TV and from there on out hope the right customer would see it and buy your product.
This was time consuming, frustrating and costs a shitload of money. Now to make things worse, a lot of companies still take the same approach and just throw money at it.
The wrong examples.
In the heyday of TV you would have great commercials.
Everyone knows the one about a polar bear drinking….Coca Cola. Helping Santa claus. Those weren’t commercials. Those were freaking movies.
You know your marketing is working when you’re responsible for officially changing the colors from Santa claus. (Yes Coca Cola did this)
Changing his costume from tan/green to red/white.
Now I can hear you thinking. If everyone remembers them, they did a good job.
Well…yes but they have a average marketing budget of 4 Billion dollars (Yeah, with a B)
Marketing terms.
Now from these immense marketing companies that work for Nike, Puma, Apple and other giants, you will hear terms like “Brand building” and “Online presence”.
Brand building is the process of marketing your brand. Building brand awareness, promoting products, or simply connecting with your audience and establishing a relationship with them in their day-to-day lives.
Online presence is the existence in digital media through online search systems. In the digital age it’s seen as one of the essential requirements for companies. How visible you are in the online world.
In short, a lot of bullshit.
Now this makes sense if you have billions to throw at it but if your marketing budget is in the thousands per month…this doesn’t move the needle one bit.
The right way.
If you start online marketing you should focus on actually selling your product. It’s that simple
Create a good ad, get it to the perfect audience, get your sales numbers up.
If you haven’t been following my blog, you should really start here.
Don’t fall for the illusion the giants create because it will have the same effect as literally burning your money.
When you create an ad, you should focus on a few things:
Strong and simple headline.
Short body copy. (the actual text)
Straight-to-the-point CLA (Call To Action)
And for all of the above there is a secret sauce…
Don’t be salesy, don’t be creepy and don’t lie.
If you show them your product actually helps, people will throw money at you.
The right way made easy.
Now just because the giants use social media, it doesn’t mean you should stay away from it and try TV ads or billboards. It’s the opposite.
Social media marketing is a gateway to endless customers and the best part is…
You can target your perfect customer while creating your ad which means the chance of them buying your product shoots up exponentially and this gets boosted again by retargeting.
