If you're looking for a way to make your ads more effective, grab more attention, and attract more customers… this article is for you.
I remember well when I created my first ad. I hated it.
The assignment came from my boss because I had the most experience with sales and the online world. The first step was to analyze the largest and most successful companies. I wanted to use that knowledge to create our ad, but all I achieved was the feeling that I had no idea what I was doing or what to do.
There had to be something.
A formula, a way to make an ad that would at least do something. I got different ideas everywhere. Use a puppy or other cute animal. No, just make sure you keep everything businesslike. NO…make sure you repeat everything a few times.
I just didn't know what to do anymore so I did what seemed like the most logical solution. I copied the competition. Some small changes here and there and my ad was ready.
My boss agreed and the ad went live.
After a week I asked my boss if the ad had produced results.
He looked surprised….what do you mean by results?
My ad, did it generate sales? Have people responded?
He leaned back and laughed. No Giovanni, that's not how ads work. The ad was branding and brand awareness. To plant seeds.
Ahh ok…I understand.
But I didn't understand anything. How can that create more customers and turnover?
Only years later did I understand that my boss at the time didn't understand anything about ads or what branding actually did.
When I started marketing for myself I did exactly the same. Long paragraphs where I tried to capture the reader with difficult words and told everything about the product and services. 1 big salad of words, no results and with the same excuse.
This is for brand awareness, branding, our brand position in the market and those kinds of statements.
The raw truth…
Most companies throw away almost 50% of their marketing budget and that had to stop. So I went down the “rabbit hole” and months turned into years but I saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
So what is one of the tricks of a good digital marketing strategy?
When you spend money on something you know exactly what you get in return.
That delicious steak, those new shoes, that bag or a toolbox.
Everything you get is measurable by the money you spent and marketing is no different.
Make sure you can measure them. A word they use in the contact form, a discount code that is different on every ad, small changes that you can keep track of.
Measuring is knowing.
That is one of the golden rules we use when working with a customer and you would be surprised if you saw the results.
